Dog Training

I have been involved with dog training now for 15 years and it is my passion and love. There is nothing better than a well behaved dog that can go everywhere and anywhere with you. I have the privilege of sharing my life with two male rottweilers, Jaega and Quba, and a female great dane, Tara. I presently am a trainer at the Cape Province Dog Club based in Pinelands, Cape Town. I run the beginners course, which involves dogs of all ages that have not had prior training, so all types of behavioural problems arrive for me to sort out. I also assist with the training of the puppies from 8 weeks through to 5 months old together with Julie Tobiansky. I completed my Certificate in Animal Behaviour through the UK-based learning facilty C.O.A.P.E (Centre of Applied Pet Ethology). This is represented by Thinking Pets here in South Africa. I am now registered with them as a behaviourist. Private Training/Consultations: I do many home visits and consultations to assist families and individuals that have problems with their dogs, or behavioral concerns. (Consult fees on request) The methods I use, are all positive reinforcement based training and I do not believe or practice in any harsh form of treatment to resolve a problem. I truly have proved that all problems can be dealt with in a positive manner in order to change/alter/counter condition an unwanted behaviour. Training Tips: Practice pack leadership at all times. What you allow you teach! Repetition, consistency and reward will result in great behaviour. Dogs are creatures of habit; create routines and stick to them. NO form of physical abuse at any time. Ignore or distract the negative behaviour and praise when doing the right thing.
